Congo Biotropical Institute
= CBI =
The CBI was created to:
- Protect and conserve the wild biodiversity of the Congo’s community rainforests, in collaboration with local communities (indigenous peoples). Indeed, these local communities are the traditional managers. Their actors remain the protectors of the biological diversity of these forests for thousands of years and this, therefore, well before the arrival of modern science!
- Improve local knowledge and traditional practices by combining them with scientific methods. This is to enable indigenous peoples to benefit from the natural (forest) resources in their living areas – while intervening for the preservation of the biological diversity of the Congo community rainforests that surround them. The participatory approach implemented generates solutions adapted to the daily life of local communities, the first protectors of tropical forests.
